Walking

Aria took six steps today. I think we will call that her first official walking.

She was standing over by the playpen fence near the kitchen. Hosanna was at the kitchen table watching through the doorway, and I was at the other end of the living room on the couch. I had dropped to all fours as if to crawl after her. But instead of crawling off, she tottered over in my direction. We just held our breath, watched, and counted her steps.

She didn't repeat the performance after that, but it was enough. End of an era.

More pics, almost walking, more teething

Aria is so super close to walking now. She took one step a couple times over the past week. Yesterday she took two steps a few times. And she let go of the coffee table, then lowered herself to the ground without holding on to anything.

Long night last night. More teething. We put her to bed at 8:30. She woke up in pain at 9:30, 11, 2, 3:30, 4:30, and 5:30. From 5:30 she stayed awake until 7 - Hosanna got up with her and took her downstairs. They came back to bed at 7, then slept until 8:30. Crazy.

I put together a couple more photo albums at snapfish.com. One is of her birthday party and the other is of her playing the piano.

morning of first birthday

It's Aria's birthday today. A few people are coming over later, but I thought I would get caught up here on the past couple weeks first.

We took a trip to the Folsom City Zoo. It's a rescue zoo, meaning that they rescue animals that for one reason or another wouldn't survive in the wild, or that are injured and need nursing back to health before release. They have a big tiger there right now that roared and jumped right at us, taking a swipe at the cage barely six feet from where we were standing. Yikes!

Surly tiger

A few days ago Aria pushed her Lego table all the way across the room to the piano, then proceeded to climb up onto it, get up on the piano, and start singing and playing like she was in show business. She had so much fun doing it. I took some video but unfortunately it's too large to post here, so you'll have to make do with the pictures.

These are some pics of her playing around with Kathy aka Nana, who is still her favorite person in the whole world. Nobody can make her laugh like Nana can.

Last weekend we went to go see the San Francisco Mime Troupe with our friends Kyle, Kelly and Jenk. Jenk is exactly one year older than Aria - he was born on 9/16/2004 at the same birth center where Aria was born. The SF Mime Troupe do free political theater. They were loads of fun. It was a great little day in the park.

Bedtime has become a much happier time now. We have a good routine down: she gets her woobie (the blanket) and her teddy bear, and we go up to bed. We get her pajamas on, read anywhere from 1 to 5 books depending on how tired she is, then she nurses. Hosanna always puts her down in the crib while she is still awake, and she goes to sleep on her own.
