The next phase

We were just listening to a CD of kids music that my sister gave us. The first track is Mahna Mahna (from the Muppets), performed by Cake. Hosanna was sitting in a chair with an empty coffee mug balanced on her belly, and the baby was kicking and punching so much that the mug was getting jiggled all around. We figured the kid must be dancing in there. When the Cake song stopped, so did all the fuss.

We went to Babies R Us this weekend and looked at strollers for the first time. I was really apprehensive going in there, but it turned out to be a lot of fun. We pulled all the "travel systems" (the terminology kills me) down on the floor, punched and kicked at 'em, folded 'em and unfolded 'em, smacked 'em around a bunch. We left thinking we knew the one we wanted, but then when we went to create our registry on the web site, it showed up as unavailable, so... back to square one I guess. We tried to add other things to our registry but it was just too overwhelming, and we left it til too late at night. Try again tomorrow perhaps.

Hosanna is in pretty good spirits for the most part. She's really enjoying all the attention. She likes it when people put their hand on her belly. She even likes it when I drum on it. She's getting pretty clumsy though. Just in the time I've taken to write this, she's smacked her leg on at least two different pieces of furniture in our bedroom.

There are several little routines we've really come to enjoy. I love rubbing the cocoa butter on her belly (we're told it helps with stretch marks). We also really like getting up in the morning and changing the page on our day-to-day pregnancy calendar. It's fun knowing what is going on, even if it sometimes gets a little preachy (like today's, which reminds us to breast feed, which we already knew we were going to do anyway). We like taking little walks around the neighborhood, and going over to the elementary school and checking our memory of the 50 states on the big map of the USA they have painted on the ground.

Also, I've gotten into the habit of relaying vital information about the A's to our little one. I tell it whenever Mark Kotsay gets a big hit or Bobby Crosby turns another double play. I figure it's not the content of what I'm saying that's important, it's that the babe gets familiar with my voice. And I can certainly rattle on about the A's, even if they are in last place right now...
